Report Says Over 80,000 Migrants Forcibly Pushed Back at EU Borders in 2025

Illegal “pushback” practices against asylum seekers at the European Union’s external borders remain widespread and affected tens of thousands of people in 2025, according to a report shared by Belgian solidarity network 11.11.11 with Anadolu.

The report said tens of thousands were forcibly returned beyond EU borders without being given the opportunity to apply for international protection.

It added that hundreds of men, women and children each day were subjected to beatings, stripping and theft before being pushed back across rivers or seas.

At least 80,865 pushback cases were recorded in 2025, the report said, averaging 221 per day.

There was no immediate comment from EU institutions on the findings.
