A massive rockslide has buried the village of “Tirsin” in the Jebel Marra region of Darfur, western Sudan, resulting in a major humanitarian catastrophe.
The Sudan Liberation Army, which controls the area, announced that the incident has claimed the lives of approximately 1,000 people.
Rescue efforts are facing extreme difficulties due to the size of the boulders, while nearly 20,000 residents in 8 neighboring villages, located in a low-lying area prone to further slides, are at risk.
