Center-right senator Rodrigo Paz won Bolivia’s presidential runoff on Sunday, securing 54.5% of the vote after more than 97% of ballots were counted, the country’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal announced.
His rival, former right-wing president Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, garnered 45.4%, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Shortly after the results were released, Quiroga conceded defeat, saying, “I called Rodrigo Paz to congratulate him — we need a mature attitude now,” in a statement seen as a call for political stability following a tense election.
