Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange at least 1,200 prisoners of war from each side in the near future, Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinsky announced Wednesday following peace talks in Istanbul.
“In continuing the prisoner exchange process, we have agreed to a new swap involving no fewer than 1,200 POWs per side,” Medinsky said at a press conference, according to AFP.
He added that Moscow has proposed returning the bodies of approximately 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed in combat, as part of a broader humanitarian gesture.
The agreement marks a significant outcome from the Istanbul negotiations, which come amid ongoing tensions and slow progress on other political and military fronts.
