Russia on Monday, March 30, 2026, ordered a diplomat at the British embassy in Moscow to leave the country, accusing him of espionage.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) identified the diplomat as Albertus Gerhardus Janse van Rensburg, a 29-year-old embassy secretary, alleging he was involved in “subversive intelligence activities threatening Russia’s security.”
Authorities said his diplomatic accreditation has been revoked, and he has been given two weeks to leave the country.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it summoned the UK chargé d’affaires, warning London of potential retaliatory measures.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, which have mutually expelled diplomats over espionage accusations in recent years.
There has been no immediate public comment from the British embassy in Moscow.
