Russia has returned to Ukraine the bodies of 1,000 people identified as Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war, the Ukrainian government agency responsible for prisoners of war said on Thursday.

“The transfer of the bodies took place today (Thursday),” the agency said in a statement, expressing gratitude for the assistance provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Authorities are now working to identify the remains, AFP reported.
