Russia has agreed to increase its oil exports to China by 2.5 million metric tons per year via Kazakhstan, following a new agreement signed by Russian energy giant Rosneft and Chinese companies.
Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev told Russia 24 during the Eastern Economic Forum that the deal is part of an amended protocol to a previously approved bilateral government agreement, aimed at expanding oil cooperation between the two countries.
The move underscores Moscow’s efforts to strengthen economic ties with Beijing amid Western restrictions on Russian exports, while China seeks stable energy sources to support its economic growth.
Through this agreement, Russia reinforces its position as a key oil supplier to China, relying on overland routes through Kazakhstan to reduce logistical risks associated with maritime transport.
