A Russian army general was wounded in a shooting inside a residential building in Moscow on Friday and was taken to hospital, Russia’s Investigative Committee said.

The committee, which probes major crimes, said in a statement that an unidentified person fired several shots at Vladimir Alexeyev, a general who previously held a senior post in Russia’s General Staff, before fleeing the scene.

It said the victim had been taken to hospital. No further details were immediately available on his condition or the motive behind the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.
