Sixty people have been killed in floods that swept through the Chinese capital and its northern provinces, including 31 residents of a nursing home in the Taishitun suburb.

Authorities confirmed that 44 deaths were recorded in Beijing alone, while 31 people remain missing.

The floods began a week ago and reached their peak on Monday, devastating large areas near the main water reservoir in northern China.
