South Korean authorities continued search and rescue operations Tuesday following last week’s torrential rains and deadly landslides that have left at least 19 people dead and nine still missing.
The Ministry of Interior said in an official statement that one more fatality was confirmed, bringing the death toll to 19. Ten of the deaths occurred in Sancheong, Gyeongsang Province, five in Gyeonggi, three in Chungcheong, and one in Gwangju.
Emergency repair efforts are underway, with 2,976 of the 6,752 damaged buildings and facilities having undergone temporary restoration.
More than 14,000 people have sought refuge in temporary shelters since the onset of the heavy rains, with 2,549 still unable to return to their homes.
