Sri Lankan police arrested former President Ranil Wickremesinghe (76) on Friday and referred him to court for allegedly misusing state funds.

Local media reports indicate the investigation concerns a 2019 trip to London to attend his wife’s graduation, amid the country’s economic crisis from 2019 to 2024.

Authorities accuse Wickremesinghe of exploiting his position for personal gain.
