France was struck on Thursday by a powerful storm named “Benjamin”, bringing massive waves and wind gusts reaching 160 km/h across the country.
Authorities reported that more than 100,000 homes were affected by power outages since 8:30 a.m., particularly in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, where around 45,000 households were impacted.
The storm disrupted rail services, led to the closure of public parks, and caused flooding in parts of Cherbourg due to heavy rain. Fourteen departments were placed on orange alert in anticipation of high winds, flooding, and rough seas.
Authorities urged residents to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel until the emergency situation subsides.
