A powerful earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck the Colombian capital, Bogotá, early Sunday, causing buildings to shake and alarms to sound, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.
Central Colombia is known to be seismically active, having experienced a similar earthquake in 1999 that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people in Ansermanuevo.
