Student Protests Erupt Across U.S. States Over Immigration Policies

Several U.S. states have seen widespread student protests in recent weeks, with students boycotting classes and staging demonstrations against government immigration policies, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said the wave of protests followed the fatal shooting of two people by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minnesota, sparking public and student anger in states including Utah, Maine, Maryland, Washington and Texas.

In the Salt Lake area of Utah, students from eight schools marched carrying backpacks and loudspeakers, while in Maine students gathered on a bridge over the Kennebec River to stage a similar protest.

There was no immediate comment from ICE or the Department of Homeland Security on the demonstrations.
