The Sudanese army repelled a new attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of Babnusa in West Kordofan state, southern Sudan, on Monday.
The clashes are part of intense fighting in the three Kordofan states (North, West, and South) that has continued for several days. The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, stems from disagreements over unifying the military, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of around 13 million people.
The army continues operations in the Kordofan states to regain control over the Darfur region in western Sudan, where all major cities have fallen under Rapid Support Forces control since the capture of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on 26 October.
