Syria and Israel held their first acknowledged direct talks on Tuesday since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, in U.S.-mediated negotiations aimed at easing regional tensions.
Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that the sides discussed reactivating the 1974 ceasefire agreement that established a buffer zone.
Few details were released, but the Trump administration confirmed its push for normalization as part of its vision for a “prosperous Middle East.”
