Syria Announces Immediate Ceasefire in Sweida

Syria’s Interior Ministry announced Wednesday an immediate ceasefire agreement in the southern province of Sweida, with all parties committing to de-escalation efforts in the restive region.

The ministry stated that a joint supervisory committee has been formed, comprising representatives of the Syrian state and the Druze spiritual leadership, to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire.

The agreement includes the deployment of joint police and security checkpoints manned by local police personnel from Sweida. It also designates local officers from the province to take on leadership and operational roles in enforcing the truce.

The ceasefire comes amid a wave of Israeli airstrikes in southern Syria, including a recent raid near the presidential palace in Damascus, which has raised concerns over wider regional instability.
