Syria Forms Committee to Investigate Deadly July Violence in Sweida Province

Syria’s Ministry of Justice announced on Thursday the formation of an investigative committee tasked with probing the deadly violence that erupted in July in the southern province of Sweida, a region predominantly inhabited by the Druze community.

In an official statement, the ministry said the committee’s mandate includes uncovering the “circumstances and causes” of the unrest, investigating “assaults and violations committed against citizens,” and referring anyone found to be involved to the judiciary.

The committee consists of seven members: four judges, two lawyers, and a senior military officer with the rank of brigadier general. According to the decree, the panel is required to submit its final report within three months.
