Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa will take part in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to be held in New York next September, a foreign ministry official told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Monday.
Al-Sharaa, who assumed power after toppling former president Bashar al-Assad on December 8, will become the first Syrian leader to deliver a speech before the General Assembly since 1967.
“The Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa will participate in the UN General Assembly in New York and deliver a speech,” the foreign ministry official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
