The Taliban on Sunday rejected threats by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of consequences if the Bagram Airbase was not handed back to Washington.

The group stressed that Afghanistan’s independence and sovereignty are “non-negotiable,” adding that any deal to return the base is “impossible.”

Trump had argued Bagram’s importance due to its proximity to Chinese nuclear facilities.
