Talk in the United States has intensified among officials and media outlets about a potential “swift and clean” U.S. strike on Iran, as officials in the Middle East voiced concern over the consequences of any possible military escalation.
The comments come as Iran witnessed widespread protests in late December 2025 that lasted for nearly two weeks, triggered by a sharp fall in the value of the national currency and a deepening economic crisis.
The demonstrations began in the capital, Tehran, before spreading to several other cities, according to official and media reports, amid mounting economic pressure on citizens.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged public discontent and pledged to work toward improving living conditions and addressing the country’s economic challenges.
