Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Immediate Ceasefire Following Malaysia-Brokered Talks

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Monday that Thailand and Cambodia have reached an agreement for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, aiming to defuse escalating tensions along their shared border.

The announcement came after a high-level meeting hosted in Kuala Lumpur, where Malaysia currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The talks brought together Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The border dispute between the two countries stems from long-standing disagreements over an 817-kilometer stretch that remains partially undemarcated.
