Thailand announced on Sunday that it will hold talks with Cambodia in Malaysia on Monday in a bid to end the recent border clashes that have escalated over the past few days.
According to a statement from the Thai Prime Minister’s Office, Acting Prime Minister Pumtham Wechayachai will travel to Malaysia for what could be the first direct meeting with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet. The purpose of the meeting, the statement noted, is to “listen to all proposals” and to “restore peace,” as reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The talks come amid mounting regional concern over the intensifying conflict, which has sparked fears of a broader escalation. Both nations have expressed interest in resolving the situation through diplomatic channels.
