Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dissolved parliament on Friday, December 12, 2025, only three months after taking office, as the country grapples with an intensifying border conflict with Cambodia.
The move comes as hundreds of thousands of Thais remain in tents and emergency shelters, fleeing clashes along the disputed frontier that have left at least 20 people dead since the start of the week.
Despite the ongoing crisis, Thailand’s chronic political instability resurfaced. In a brief message posted on Facebook late on Thursday, Charnvirakul signaled his intention to dissolve the legislature, saying he wished “to return power to the people.”
