At least 40 irregular migrants drowned on Wednesday after their boat capsized off the coast of Mahdia, central Tunisia, while 30 others were rescued, according to a judicial spokesperson.
Authorities said the vessel carried around 70 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, including infants.
The Central Mediterranean route remains one of the deadliest migration paths globally, with over 32,000 people dead or missing since 2014, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
