The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has approved major disaster declarations for at least seven states this week, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), enabling affected communities to access federal assistance.
The states include Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Washington. The designation allows for federal funding to support recovery efforts, including public infrastructure repairs and direct aid to affected residents.
Meanwhile, around 15 additional requests from other states remain under review, along with three appeals of previously denied applications, following severe and volatile weather events over this year and the last.
The announcement was included in FEMA’s daily briefing and comes weeks after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin assumed oversight of the disaster relief agency, signaling potential stabilization after disruptions during the tenure of his predecessor, Kristi Noem, who was dismissed in March.
