Trump Announces 25% Tariff on Imported Heavy Trucks Starting November 1

U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States will impose a 25% tariff on imported heavy trucks beginning November 1, in a move aimed at bolstering domestic manufacturers.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the measure was taken on “national security grounds.” The White House noted that the decision is intended to support American truck makers such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, and Mack Trucks, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The announcement follows Trump’s September 26 declaration of a new round of punitive tariffs on a wide range of imported goods, including a 100% levy on branded pharmaceuticals and a 25% tariff on heavy trucks, set to take effect next week.
