U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the United States will impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese imports starting November 1, alongside existing duties, escalating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.

In a post on social media, Trump said the new measures will also include export controls on all sensitive software. He stated that the move comes in response to what he described as a “highly hostile” message from China.

According to Trump, Beijing had indicated plans to impose sweeping export controls on nearly all of its products — and even on some goods not manufactured domestically — a move the U.S. president called “highly aggressive” in trade policy.
