US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that deploying ground troops in Iran in the future to monitor the country’s stockpiles of enriched uranium is a possibility.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said such a move could be considered at a later stage.

“We might do that at some point. It would be great,” he said when asked about the possibility.

He added that the option is not under consideration at the moment, saying: “That’s something we could do later, but not now.”

The White House has justified the attacks on Iran partly by saying the Islamic Republic had accumulated large stockpiles of enriched uranium, bringing it very close to being able to produce a nuclear weapon.
