US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he does not want Kurdish forces to join the war in Iran, saying their involvement could further complicate the conflict.

Trump made the remarks while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One when asked whether Kurdish groups might join the attacks on Iran and whether they could seek to establish an autonomous region similar to those in Syria and Iraq if they entered the war.

“We are very good friends with the Kurds, but we don’t want to complicate the war more than it already is,” Trump said. “I have decided that I don’t want the Kurds going in there.”

When asked whether Iran’s map would remain the same after the attacks end, Trump replied: “I can’t say that, but probably not.”

Trump also claimed that Iran is reducing its attacks day by day, adding that it has suffered heavy losses and may eventually surrender.
