U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, within the next two weeks — a surprise development coming on the eve of Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, where Kyiv hopes to secure U.S.-made Tomahawk missiles.
The announcement followed a phone call between Trump and Putin, during which the Russian leader warned that delivering long-range U.S. missiles to Ukraine would “seriously damage” relations between Moscow and Washington.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the summit “will take place within the next two weeks,” without providing further details on the agenda.
