U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he believes regime change in Iran could be “the best thing that can happen,” speaking to reporters before departing for Florida for the weekend.

Asked whether he wanted regime change in Iran, Trump replied: “I think that’s the best thing that can happen.”

When asked what Iran should do to avoid a U.S. strike, Trump said: “They should have made the right deal earlier. Then we wouldn’t do that (we wouldn’t attack), but historically they didn’t.”

He added that Iran “talks a lot and doesn’t do anything,” saying: “They’ve been talking nonstop for 47 years, and in the meantime, while they were talking, we lost a lot of lives.”

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials on Trump’s remarks.
