U.S. President Donald Trump said that “the United States will temporarily administer Venezuela to ensure a safe and orderly political transition,” following a military operation that resulted in the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

He added that Washington is coordinating with parties set to assume power later, warning that “U.S. forces are prepared to carry out much larger additional strikes if necessary.”

Trump also announced plans to market Venezuelan oil to several countries, a move that has sparked widespread regional and international concern.
