U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a decree imposing new import tariffs of 25% on trucks and 10% on buses, expanding his administration’s trade measures to include the heavy vehicle sector.
Trump had announced in late September his intention to introduce additional tariffs on trucks starting October 1, but the final decree also added buses, which were not mentioned in the earlier plan.
The two categories will now face the same tariff rates already applied to the automobile and machinery sectors, with the new duties set to take effect on November 1.
The decision follows a Commerce Department investigation into whether the relocation of manufacturing plants outside the United States poses a threat to national security — a rationale the Trump administration has used for tariffs across several industries.
