Trump Threatens Sharp Tariff Hike on India Over Russian Oil Imports

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to impose a significant increase in tariffs on India within 24 hours, citing New Delhi’s continued imports of Russian oil.

“India has not been a fair trading partner. They benefit greatly from us, but we don’t see the same in return,” Trump said, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP). “We had agreed on a 25% tariff, but I believe I will raise it significantly in the next 24 hours because they are buying oil from Russia.”

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and some of its key trading partners over economic ties with Moscow, as the U.S. continues to pressure countries to scale back commercial relations with Russia due to its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
