President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday that he will meet New York City Mayor-elect Zahran Mamdani, a socialist, on Friday in the Oval Office.

Mamdani, a left-leaning Democrat and vocal critic of Trump, said he is prepared to discuss “the cost of living,” a key concern for Americans, following his election in November.

Trump wrote: “The Communist Mayor of New York, Zahran Mamdani, requested a meeting. We have decided this meeting will take place in the Oval Office on Friday, November 21.”

During his campaign, Mamdani frequently used Trump as a foil, accusing him of “fascism.”
