U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will visit China early next year, expressing optimism about reaching a trade agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping during their upcoming meeting in South Korea later this month.
Speaking to reporters at the White House while hosting Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Trump said, “I’ve received an invitation to go to China, and I will do so early next year. It’s been agreed upon,” according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The announcement comes despite renewed tensions between Washington and Beijing over recent tariff disputes, which have strained trade relations between the world’s two largest economies.
