Japanese authorities issued a tsunami warning after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan on Sunday.

Residents were urged to stay away from the coastline after a small wave was detected about 70 kilometers offshore.

Officials said the quake occurred at sea, with no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.
