Clashes erupted inside the Turkish parliament between lawmakers from the opposition Republican People’s Party and the ruling Justice and Development Party during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Justice Minister, Akif Gorliek.

Circulating footage showed pushing and exchanges of blows after opposition MPs attempted to prevent the minister from taking the oath.

The tensions stem from the minister’s judicial record, particularly previous decisions that sparked widespread protests in the country.
