Senegalese authorities said on Wednesday that 12 bodies were recovered off the coast of Joal in the Mbour region south of Dakar after a boat carrying migrants capsized en route to Spain’s Canary Islands.

Initial reports from the Senegalese news agency indicated that rescue teams also saved around 30 people on board the vessel, a traditional boat that departed the coast on a perilous journey before overturning early Tuesday morning.
