Philippine authorities reported on Saturday that Typhoon “Calmaigi,” which hit the country from the Pacific on Wednesday, has killed 204 people and caused widespread flooding and destruction.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 109 people remain missing, and approximately 2.9 million residents have been affected. Locally, the storm is also known as “Tino.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a national state of disaster on Thursday, stating that the move would expand government emergency response and accelerate the distribution of aid. Authorities had evacuated tens of thousands of residents to safer areas and warned fishermen against venturing out to sea ahead of the typhoon.
