Typhoon Kalmaegi swept through central Vietnam on Friday, bringing powerful winds and torrential rain that left at least five people dead and caused extensive damage across several provinces, according to state media. The storm struck Vietnam days after battering the Philippines, where it left dozens dead or missing.
As floodwaters began to recede, emergency crews and local authorities launched relief efforts and cleanup operations in affected towns and industrial areas, while residents worked to repair damaged roofs and property.
Three fatalities were reported in Dak Lak Province and two in Gia Lai, while three people remain missing in Quang Ngai. Six others were injured. More than 50 houses collapsed completely, and around 2,600 others were damaged or lost their roofs — including more than 2,400 homes in Gia Lai alone. Power outages have affected over 1.6 million households.
