Chinese authorities evacuated over 347,000 people as Typhoon Matmo struck Guangdong and Hainan provinces with winds reaching 151 km/h.

The meteorological agency raised the alert level to “red,” the highest in the country, urging residents to take maximum precautions.

Flights were canceled and public institutions closed in affected regions as heavy rain and strong winds continued.
