he United Nations Security Council has imposed sanctions on four commanders of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over suspected involvement in serious violations against civilians, according to a U.N. statement issued on Thursday.
The statement said the four leaders were added to the sanctions list over their activities, particularly in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, where fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese army has continued since 2023.
Those sanctioned include Abdul Rahim Hamdan Dagalo, deputy commander of the RSF, and Jado Hamdan Ahmed.
The measures include a travel ban and asset freeze, citing threats to peace and security in Sudan, serious violations against civilians and obstruction of humanitarian aid.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF on the decision.
