U.S. Approves Potential $90 Million Vehicle Inspection Systems Sale to Iraq

The United States has approved a potential sale of military equipment and logistics services related to passenger vehicle inspection systems to Iraq, valued at about $90 million, the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said on Thursday.

In a statement, the agency said Iraq had requested a two-year extension of a contracted logistics support agreement, including around-the-clock support services, to sustain its “VACIS XPL” vehicle inspection systems.

The request includes corrective and preventive maintenance services, spare parts, repair support, software updates and remote monitoring, as well as engineering, technical and logistics support from the U.S. government and contractors, the statement said.

The agency added that Congress had been notified of the potential sale, which is estimated to be worth approximately $90 million.
