U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressed confidence Sunday in reaching a trade agreement with the European Union, despite recent tariff threats issued by former President Donald Trump.
“I’m confident we’ll reach a deal,” Lutnick told CBS News, revealing he had just held talks with European trade negotiators earlier in the day as discussions intensify.
His remarks come as Trump threatens to impose 30% tariffs on imports from both the EU and Mexico starting August 1, following weeks of stalled negotiations with key U.S. trading partners.
