U.S. Envoy Arrives in Beirut Following Visit by CENTCOM Commander

U.S. Deputy Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Morgan Ortagus arrived in Beirut on Sunday, following the visit of newly appointed CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper, who landed in the Lebanese capital a day earlier.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Ortagus landed at Rafic Hariri International Airport in the morning for a visit of undisclosed duration and agenda.

Cooper had arrived in Beirut Saturday evening after his first official trip to Israel since assuming his post on August 8.

The U.S. visits come just days after the Lebanese government approved a sensitive army plan to consolidate all weapons under state control, including those held by Hezbollah, while keeping its details classified.
