The U.S. Department of the Treasury on Wednesday announced the imposition of what it described as the largest package of Iran-related sanctions since 2018, targeting over 50 individuals and entities, as well as more than 50 vessels linked to an international shipping network controlled by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Iranian Supreme Leader’s political adviser Ali Shamkhani.
In a statement, the Treasury said that the network operates a vast fleet of oil tankers and cargo ships that transport Iranian and Russian oil to global markets, generating billions of dollars in revenue used to fund the Iranian regime’s activities.
The department confirmed that more than 115 sanction-related actions were taken in this latest round, aimed at disrupting Iran’s ability to profit from illicit oil sales and curb its destabilizing influence in the region.
