U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Malaysia on Friday, on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ meetings. The encounter will present an opportunity to address numerous disputes between Beijing and Washington.
This meeting comes amid ongoing tensions between the U.S. and China over a range of issues, particularly trade, fentanyl, Taiwan, advanced technologies, and Ukraine—where the U.S. accuses China of supporting Russia’s war machine.
It will be the first in-person meeting between the two foreign ministers since Rubio assumed office in January.
