The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for November 5 to review the legality of former President Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs, a major test of one of his boldest assertions of executive authority and a cornerstone of his economic and trade agenda.
Lower courts previously ruled that Trump exceeded his powers by imposing most of the tariffs under a federal law intended for national emergencies.
The Supreme Court, which begins its new nine-month term on October 6, also agreed to hear a separate challenge to Trump’s tariffs filed by the family-owned educational toy company Learning Resources.
